How to get Turkish Citizenship
On 12 of January 2017 in the Official Newspaper of the Turkish Government “Resmi Gazete” changes to the law "About the Turkish citizenship » was published.
According to this document, 5 categories of foreigners may apply for the Turkish nationality by simplified procedure:
- Persons who have bought properties that values at least 250.000 $ (USD). In condition if they will keep it within 3 years from date of purchase.
- Persons who have invested into the Turkish industry more than 500.000 $ (USD).
- Persons who have a deposit in Turkish banks in amount at least 500.000 $US dollars. And keep it in Turkey within 3 years from the date of investment.
- Persons who have purchased government securities (bonds) in value of at least 500.000 $ for a period not less than 3 years.
- Persons who opened a company and gave at least 50 new work place for Turkish citizens
RESIDENTS PERMIT
As a home owner or property tenant, you are eligible to have resident’s permit in Turkey. Home owner’s wife and children (under 18 years old) will have the right to obtain resident’s permit as well.
Duration of each resident’s permit is one year and before it expires you should renew it. If you have resident’s permit for 5 years back to back, at the 6th year you will have the right to apply for Turkish citizenship. If you have resident’s permit for 8 years back to back at the 9th year you will have the right to get permanent resident’s permit.
Following documents to be needed when applying for resident’s permit
- 4 passport pictures
- Copy of passport and latest entry date
- Filling online application form
- Health insurance (between ages 0-17 and over 66 are not needed)
- Copy of tapu (issued by land registration office 1 week prior to application)
- If it’s a rental apartment, copy of rental contract approved at the notary public
- Turkish tax number
- Bank account in the amount of € 5,000 or $ 6,000. This amount should be in Turkish bank account and the copy of the bank book is needed to submit for resident’s permit
- Application fee and service charge
TAPU (TITLE DEED)
Tapu – it is the only document that proves ownership rights for the property in Turkey. All Tapus are issued and stored in the Land Registry Office.
The owners of a property in Turkey can be both physical and legal entity registered in Turkey or abroad. Several owners could be registered In a Tapu, but their share of the property can be different. The maximum number of co-owners for one Tapu – 10 persons. It may be as relatives as bystanders. There is no age limit. The number of owners and ownership interests are determined by the buyer.
Buyer can receive a Tapu only after payment of the full value of the property.
To start the procedure of registration of Tapu, all future owners of the real estate must have the following documents:
• a copy of the passport
• 2 passport-size photos (3.5 x 4.5cm)
• Turkish tax number.
Expenses for :
1. The tax, which is 4% of the appraised value, which is determined by the municipality.
2. State duty to the State Bank of Turkey, it is about 80 €.
3. Service of licensed interpreter around 40 €
